THE VICTORIA UNIVERSITY FILM SOCIETY (INC.) takes pleasure in announcing a one night screening of two world distinguished films ORSON WELLES' CITIZEN KANE (First N.Z. Showing Since 1945) This is unquestionably one of the most intelligent films the cinema has produced … Direction, narration, the use of sound, of cutting and editing, subject matter—none have been the same since Kane (WILLIAM WHITEBAIT). Kane is bold and arresting but also coldly objective and overly intellectual in its handling of the characters. It impresses but rarely excites its audience (ARTHUR KNIGHT). A magnificent personal achievement, a tour de force which succeeds. It bears the mark of strength, even genius (ROGER MANVELL). Citizen Kane has without doubt been one of the most influential films of three decades (PETER COWIE). To be screened in the Memorial Theatre on Wednesday, July 10, at 7.30 p.m. with LUIS BUNUEL'S UN CHIEN ANDALOU (Cert. Restricted Screening) All members and friends are invited to this unique one night stand at Victoria University. Films, specially imported from England, must be returned immediately after screening. ONE NIGHT ONLY P.B.A.
