Sir J. Eardley Wilmot, M.P.:*

I do not like the terms either or the resolution or the amendment, and I would, respectfully lay before you a short resolution, which I think will obviate the objections that have been raised. It is :—"That it would be to the best advantage of Great Britain and her Colonies that a Federal Union between them should be established." I listened with great respect to the remarks made by Sir Charles Tupper, and I agree that we should endeavour to avoid any expression that would be regarded as showing that we had the least idea of doubting whether perpetual unity will be preserved.

* Conservative Member for South Warwickshire.
