The Spike: or, Victoria College Review, October 1913
There's a divinity that shapes our ends. Rough hew them how we will. Give me the gloves.
—The Admirable Bashville.
The Boxing Club has had a very successful year. Financially we are stronger than we ever previously have been, and it will interest intending members to know that it has been possible to lower Mr. T. Tracy's fee to 2S. 6d. In spite of the fact that the exams, were right on lip of us, the attendance at the classes held this term was very fair. Owing to the late return of the coach, the Committee decided not to hold a tournament this year.
Next Easter the Inter-'Varsity Tournament will be held at Christchurch, and of course Victoria College will be representee by a team. For the benefit of those competing, there will be a series of summer classes held during the long vacation.
It is to be regretted that so many men at College fail to realise the excellent opportunities afforded by the Boxing Club. "Tim" Tracy's coaching is of the very best, and every member receives a course of ten lessons from him for the nominal sum of 2s. 6d. At present there are 30 names on the roll, and next year, we hope, will not only see an increase in this number, but also every man turning up regularly For his Tuesday night's spar.page break page break
